 Dogs of the Monon
Has anyone else been having trouble with strays on the Monon the last few weeks? I've been chased after a few times and detoured by an animal control dude recently. Are packs of dogs common on the Monon when spring first rolls around?

 Re: Dogs of the Monon
i've noticed them around 23rd-28th, but that is normal for that area. i have seen a lot of cats recently on the north side, though.
which brings me to a short story:
i feel bad becuase i love animals, but i cant help but laugh too - i ran over a cat on my bike not too long ago. it was a cold dark morning on the Monon as I was heading north, when a long-haired cat ran in front of me and then zagged back in the other direction at the speed of light. i was already going in that direction so i was not able to sway the other way and that cat managed to get rolled over. It yelled at me and ran off. I saw it again a couple days later, so i'm sure it is ok.

 Re: Dogs of the Monon
Last year, on a stretch of the Monon just north of the Fairgrounds, a zig-zagging squirrel somehow got itself swept up into my front spokes and flipped up into the air. It landed on my bare thigh and then skittered down my leg to the ground. Squirrel hair is luxuriantly soft, and their little bodies, supple. It was a nearly intimate experience. The thing kept on running though, so I guess it was OK.
But yeah, the stray dogs do seem worse this year. One has already chased after me and snipped at my left foot along approximately the same section of trail as you mention, Keith.

 Re: Dogs of the Monon
My dog complaint is about people not being aware of the dog guidelines of the monon. A 6 foot leash is asked. It seems dogs see me and want to run in front of my bike. If people would use a shorter leash or would pay attention this would not happen. Aside from that the Monon is still a great ride.
